It is ideally situated for exploring the Trotternish Peninsula with its rugged rocky ridge, including “The Old Man of Storr” a pleasant two hour round trip walk. For the more adventurous, The Cuillin Hills (the Himalaya of Skye) are only 30 minutes’ drive away, where the more serious walker/climber can find many challenging hikes and scrambles. We can suggest lots of other lovely walks all very close to Portree.

Again only a 30 minutes’ drive away is the Talisker Whisky Distillery, where they offer guided tours; Dunvegan Castle, open to the public; and along the road from the Castle is the so called “Coral Beach” – a lovely 30 minute walk from the car park with stunning views to the Outer Hebrides.

And there is so much history. Everywhere can be seen the remains of Black Houses, once home to the islanders. Flora MacDonald, who sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie, once lived here and her grave can be found at the northern end of the beautiful Trotternish Peninsula.
