Supporting Local Makers
We are lucky to have many talented ‘makers’ on Skye - we like to buy local. Many of the pictures and accessories in the B&B are by local artists, weavers, crafters and photographers; purchased in local galleries.
Charlotte is a keen knitter and runs a small knitwear business called Skye Knits. She currently works to commission fitting this in and around the B&B! Her work is Fair Isle colourwork using mainly locally dyed wool (Shilasdair) and Scottish wool. Currently orders are for small items - hats, cowls, fingerless mittens, wrist warmers – each commission is unique and made in consultation with the customer. Skye Knits has a Facebook page and you can contact Charlotte there or by dropping her an email from the Contact Us page here. There is a waiting list but if you are coming to stay, she will try to complete your commission by the dates you are visiting – you need to give at least 3 months notice. She occasionally has pieces available for sale, so do ask if you’re interested in seeing her work.
We have showcased photographs by Tim Wilcock Photography, Richard Smith Photography and in 2018 we were delighted to showcase the work of Helena Emmans. Helena’s art is inspired by life on Skye, she has featured in a number of magazines, including Country Living, and is exhibited across Scotland, the UK and internationally. You can see some of her work in pictures on the site and find out more about her art at http://helenaemmansartist.com/
